She was predeceased by: her parents, Ralph H. Marler and Jeanne Lalance Marler; her former husband Rev. James P Barksdale; and her brother Ralph. She is survived by: her husband Ward H Nichols; her children, James P Barksdale III and Elisabeth S Barksdale (Laura); and her grandchildren, Ellis A Barksdale, Finn P Barksdale and Catherine M Barksdale.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to any shelter for the homeless, or to one of the funds inspired by Martha.
