He was predeceased by: his parents, Stanley Burgess of Washington and Gracie Ann Preslar Burgess; his son Charles Alan "Chuck" Burgess; his former wife Millie Tyner Burgess; his siblings, Carrie Lee Howard, Odell Penninger, Isabelle Williams, Grover Burgess, Clyde Burgess, Bruce Burgess and Roy Boyce Burgess, Sr.; and his siblings-in-law, Diane Pettigrew, Elsie Lowder and Henry Martin.
He is survived by: his wife Myra Gail Ballard Burgess of China Grove; his children, Jeffery Scott Burgess (Becky) of Kannapolis and Reba Renee Lee of Kannapolis; his stepson Jeffrey David Ballard of Michigan; his sisters, Radie Clontz of Concord and Flora Mae Martin of Wadesboro; and his siblings-in-law, Sue of Kannapolis, Ken Lowder of Salisbury, Mike Lowder (Carol) of China Grove and Dick Pettigrew of Florida. He is also survived by numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren and nieces and nephews.
