He is survived by: his parent Clydie Scarborough Gearing; his wife Kay Mullis Gearing; his son Herman Gearing, Jr.; his wife Lynnette Sutherland Gearing of Kannapolis; his grandson Daniel Walters; and his great grandchildren, Olivia Walters and Kenley Walters.
