He was predeceased by: his parents, Roy Shinn and Pearl Hammill Shinn; his wife Frances Shuping Shinn; his son Barry Gene Shinn; and his sisters, Margaret Correll and Mary Hutchinson.
He is survived by: his children, Connie Lisenby (Ronald) of Kannapolis, James Shinn (Shirley) of Salisbury, Michael Shinn (Gail) of China Grove and Jeff Shinn of Kannapolis; his daughter-in-law Debby Shinn; his sisters, Helen Lane and Kay Deal (Phillip); and his grandchildren, Gerald Shinn (Jamie), Angie Stevens (Mark), Jonathan Shinn, David Shinn (Renee), Derrick Sweatt (Teresa), Raegan Swaringen (Donnie), Bryan Shinn (Delia), Melissa Shinn and Brad Shinn (Ashley). He is also survived by 16 great- grandchildren; and eight great-great grandchildren.
