He was predeceased by: his parents, Horace Winslow Ballard and Ethel Mae Burke Ballard; his wife Doris Ann Henley Ballard; his sons, Rodney Galen Ballard, Darrell Stephen Ballard and Charles Anthony Ballard; and his brother Keith Ballard.

He is survived by: his son Tommy Ballard (Susan) of Charlotte; his daughter-in-law Janet Ballard of Charlotte; his granddaughters, Elizabeth Ballard of Charlotte and Rebekah Ballard of Boone; and his siblings, Helen Turner (Columbus) of North Wilkesboro, Harold Ballard of Charlotte and Dwight Ballard of Gastonia.
