He was predeceased by: his parents, Willie Adkins and Ollie Ore Adkins; his wife Jo Ann Layton Adkins; his daughter Karen Poe; and his siblings, Pearl Hutchins, Paul Adkins, Melvin Adkins and Robert Adkins.

He is survived by: his children, Jeff Adkins, Jr. (Laurie), Debbie Ritch (David) and Donna Patton (Eric); his son-in-law Roger Poe; and his grandchildren, Stephanie Hutchins, Daniel Ritch (Olivia), Jonathan Ritch (Lily), Blair Patton, Krista Adkins, Emily Adkins, Nichol Quigley (Brian) and Amber Poe.

“Fred showed he loved me in the many things he did for me. When I found out they didn't have stockings to hang on Christmas Eve I had to fix that. Not to be out done Jo and Fred went shopping and bought me a stocking to hang also! But my stocking was a monkey! They thought that was so funny! We had so many good laughs together! They were truly suited for each other!”
