He was predeceased by: his parents, Richard Howell and Carrie Grubb Howell; his wife Jean Patrick Howell; and his siblings, Edison Howell, Everett Howell, Wilma Wood, Maggie Hamm and Louise Witherspoon.
He is survived by: his son Phil Howell (Evelyn) of Jefferson; his sisters, Myrtle Adams of Taylorsville, Lee Ella South of West Jefferson and Leona Jarvis of West Jefferson; his grandchildren, Phil Howell (Amanda) of Laurel Springs and Angie Holman (Rex) of Millers Creek; and his great grandchildren, Emma Howell, Nora Howell and Dylan Holman. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
