He was predeceased by: his parents, Herbert Yates and Clara H. Yates; his former wife Theda May Yates; and his siblings, Thomas Yates and Patsy Y. Robinette.
He is survived by: his wife Dorothy Ritter Yates; his children, Ronna Y. Hertel (Ken) of Kingsport, TN, Karen Lynn Yates Lewellyn (Earl) of Hillsborough, NC, Scott Brown (Tina) of High Point and Brad Brown (Janelle) of Charlotte; his siblings, Steve Yates (Charlene) of Kingsport, TN and Kay Y. Dale of Kingsport, TN; and his brother-in-law Bruce Robinette of Bristol, VA.. He is also survived by six granddaughters; three grandsons; three great granddaughters; two great grandsons.
