He is survived by: his daughters, Susan Lamerton-New, Rebecca Groenewold (Rod Groenewold) of Kingsport and Barbara Gordon Canavan; his son-in-law Darren Canavan of Jacksonville, NC; his son Samuel Gordon, Jr.; his daughter-in-law Cathy Gordon of Brownsburg, Indiana.; his wife Sandy Gordon of Richlands, NC; his stepdaughter Allison Mosley (Brian Mosley); and his grandchildren, Walter T. Lamerton (Kat LamertonIIII), Virginia Diaz (Javier Diaz), Barbara Lamerton, Samuel Groenewold (Lori Groenewold), Elijah Groenewold (Brittany Groenewold), Shay Manjarres (Mark Manjarres), Elizabeth Massalene, Darren Canavan Jr., Alexander Canavan, Hayden Canavan, Samuel Gordon, III (Sally Gordon), Sara Gordon, Drew Gordon and Benjamin Gordon.
Visitation was held on Monday, November 11th 2024 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at the Jones Funeral Home of Jacksonville Monday (303 Chaney Ave, Jacksonville, NC 28540). A funeral service was held on Tuesday, November 12th 2024 at 1:00 PM at the Bethlehem Baptist Church (4764 Gum Branch Rd, Jacksonville, NC 28540). A graveside service was held on Tuesday, November 12th 2024 at 2:00 PM at the Coastal Carolina State Veterans Cemetery (110 Montford Landing Rd, Jacksonville, NC 28540).
