He was predeceased by: his parents, Julius Whiteside and Edith Cornwell Whiteside; his siblings, Melvin "Bud" Whiteside, Betty Ruth Dameron, Gladys Ward, Linda Cannon Mull and Lou Alice Brooks; and his grandson William "Will" Marvin McLeod.
He is survived by: his wife Janet Huss Whiteside; his daughters, Melanie W. McLeod (Joe) of Lincolnton, Amy W. Dellinger (Darryl Richards) of Iron Station and Tina W. Philemon (Todd) of Iron Station; his siblings, James "Jake" Whiteside of Iron Station and Joyce W. Hoffman of Lincolnton; and his grandchildren, Clayton Dellinger, Allison McLeod, Carson Philemon, Rebekah Dellinger Prickett (Grayson) and Logan Philemon.
