He was predeceased by: his parents, Franklin Quitman Meares and Annie Cornelia Taylor. He is survived by: his wife Sally Meares; his children, John Meares (Anna), Ann Cavender and Carmen Meares; his grandchildren, Michael Larson, Richard Larson (Crystal), Dillon Meares and Bryce Meares; and his stepchildren, Roger Vinton (Karen), Susan Lineberger (Greg), Cindy Deuring (Werner), Gregory Vinton (Jennifer) and Mark Vinton.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Tunnel to Towers Foundation, 2361 Hylan Boulevard, Staten Island, NY 10306, in Norman's memory.

“Norman was a great friend. I served as his physician for a while. We had a close association with Holden Beach. Many visits. He even drove my mother out onto the beach at Holden when my son got married there. I will always remember his smiling face and his love for his wife Sally. Look forward to seeing you sometime in the future thanks, Norman .”
