He was predeceased by: his parents, James Arthur and Ruth Pearl Long Whitfield. He is survived by: his wife Vera Lee Allen Whitfield; his daughters, Gwen W. Newton (Darryl) of Hurdle Mills, Jan W. Mitchell of Hurdle Mills, Kathryn W. Simons (Robert) of Hurdle Mills, Joan W. Floyd (Wayne) of Hurdle Mills and Dawn W. Howard (Donald) of Hurdle Mills; his brother Richard A. Whitfield of Hurdle Mills; and his grandchildren, Jonathan Newton (Amber), Jacob Newton (Lauren), Joel Newton, Britt Mitchell, Brice Mitchell (Meghan), Shannon Simons, Rob Regan, Ashley Cauwels (Travis), Kristin Regan, Alex Floyd, Aaron Floyd, Hunter Howard Lea (Brandon) and Haley Howard. He is also survived by five great-grandchildren.
