He was predeceased by: his parents, Onnie L. Fortner and Lillian Ellis Fortner; his siblings, Geneva "Sally" Mitchell, Penelope Dillon and Malcolm Fortner; his aunt Minnie; and his uncle Wayne Bailey.
He is survived by: his wife Judith Watkeys Fortner; his children, Michael Fortner (Mary) and Shay Heckard (Rob); his granddaughters, Grace Goins (Alex) and Emily Heckard; and his siblings, James Short, Hope Fortner and Marlo Fortner.
