He was loved and cherished by many people including: his parents, Hazelene Barnette Gibson and Robert Edward Gibson; his children, Pam Scruggs (Stuart) of Hoschton and Terry Gibson (Glenda) of Fuquay Varina, NC; his close friend Rose Mullis of Huntersville; his grandchildren, Jake Scruggs (Rachel), Eric Scruggs (Lisa), Adam Scruggs (Brittany), Nathan Scruggs, Ben Gibson (Taylor), Kathryn Scruggs Riley (Patrick) and Sydney Gibson Hardy (Cameron); and his great grandchildren, Peyton, Charlie, Claire, Beckham, Gavin, Mason, Adelyn and Whitaker.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to be made in Robert Gibson's name to the Society for Immunotherapy of Cancer (STIC) Forward Fund at sitc.sitcancer.org/donate.
