He was predeceased by: his wife Carol Bumgarner; his parents, Thurman Sims and Lottie Sims; and his siblings, Dalton Sims (Evelyn), Pete Sims (Sybil), Doris Overcash (Buck), Bell Canipe (Pete), Polly Nye and Pat Motley (Joe).

He is survived by: his brother-in-law Phil Nye; his son Paul Sims Jr.; his niece Cindy Thrower (Mark); his grandchildren, Matt Thrower and Lexi Sims Martin (Mike); and his great grandchildren, Walker and Miller Mae Martin.
