He was predeceased by: his parents, Leon Francis Akeley, Sr. and Irene Lelonde Akeley. He is survived by: his wife Helen Ramsay Akeley; his granddaughters, Helen R. Akeley and Allyson Akeley; his children, Linda Ernst (Loren), Pamela Van Landingham, Peter Akeley (Lisa) and Michael Akeley (Jennifer); his grandchildren, Peter Akeley Jr. (Katherine), Noelle Shields, Jordan Hallman (Bryan) and Kristin Kennedy (Chad); and his great grandchildren, Peter Akeley III, Gabriel Ospina-Smith, Leif Miles, Kaila Miles, Mika Hudson, Alen Kennedy, Kathryn Kennedy, Grayson Hallman and Christian Hallman.
Visitation was held on Thursday, December 19th 2024 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at the James Funeral Home (10520 Arahova Dr, Huntersville, NC 28078). A funeral service was held on Thursday, December 19th 2024 at 11:00 AM at the same location. A burial was held on Thursday, December 19th 2024 at the Mount Zion Community Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Hospice of North Carolina or K9's For Warriors, Warrior Dog foundation etc.
