He is survived by: his wife Peggy Watson Ward; his children, Ginger (Rick Haynes) of Hickory and Brad Ward (Summer Black) of Granite Falls; his grandchildren, Steven Haynes (Michael Hargett) of Charlotte, Mandy (Zach Spencer) of Hickory and Zoë (Kaiser Isbell) of Hickory; his great grandchildren, Addie, Brayden, Colin and Drake Spencer; and his sister Eleanor (Vernon Gragg) of Lenoir. He is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews.
