Though JoAnn Matthews may journey beyond the horizon of our sight, her essence remains woven into the very fabric of our being — a guiding light in the darkness, a beacon of hope in the night.
She was predeceased by: her parents, Luther Matthews and Alcie Matthews; her husband Samuel "Sam" Sugg Johnson; her son Daniel Karl Newcomb; and her siblings, Mary Coppedge, John Matthews, Sam Matthews and Luther Matthews, Jr..
She is survived by: her son James "Lee" Newcomb, Jr. (Matt Newcomb) of Snow Hill; her sister Susie Mae Sanders of Rocky Mount; and her son Sam. She is also survived by 6 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.
Visitation was held on Sunday, October 20th 2024 from 2:00 PM to 2:50 PM at the Hookerton United Methodist Church (302 E Church St, Hookerton, NC 28538). A funeral service was held on Sunday, October 20th 2024 at 3:00 PM at the same location.
