He was predeceased by: his parents, Casper Rei Smith and Nora Lee Ellison Smith; and his siblings, Rev. C. R. Smith, Helen Johns and Gladys Hall.
He is survived by: his wife Martha Teague Smith; his children, Laura Allison Smith of Fuquay-Varina and Dr. Ellison L. Smith (Electa Alexander Smith) of Asheville; his grandchildren, Brooke Alexander Smith, Matthew Foster Smith, Jason Charles Corum and Cas Corum; and his sister Ethel Caldwell of Belton. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
