He was predeceased by: his grandparents, Clara Kearney Miller, Gary Ivan Miller, Ida Jane Best Goodwin and Henry Goodwin; his sister-in-law Millie G. Burkett (Jerry) of Kannapolis; his brother Mack Neal Goodwin, Jr.; his parents-in-law, Sadie Downer Goodwin and Joe Sharpe Goodwin; and his brothers-in-law, Beverly G. Freeman, Buddy Goodwin, Mike Goodwin and Kress Goodwin.
He is survived by: his wife Mary Ellen Goodwin; his child Gwendolen Anne (James Dallas Ratliff); his grandchildren, Caroline Spencer Ratliff, Neal Scott Carpenter and Ross Jonathan Carpenter; his siblings, John W. Goodwin of Wadesboro, Sandra G. Martin of Rockingham, Betty G. Gilmore (Eddie) of Lilesville and Barbara G. McDuffie of Kannapolis; and his brother-in-law Donnie Goodwin of Rockingham.
