He was predeceased by: his parents, Walter Lee and Edna Earle Caudle Caviness. He is survived by: his wife Grace Elizabeth "Betty" Caviness; his children, Walter Lee Caviness III, Raleigh and Elizabeth Ann Caviness Williams (Richard) of Cary; his grandchildren, Zachary Steven Williams and Ashley Elizabeth Williams; and his sister Susan Caviness Rayle (Doug) of Graham. He is also survived by his children, grandchildren, family, friends.
