He was predeceased by: his parents, Roy Lee and Laura Hedrick Gilbert; his wife Shirley R. Gilbert; and his daughters, Teresa Dickerson and Sandy Lovelace Gilbert.
He is survived by: his daughter Tammy Kaylor of Ohio; his sister Barbara Austin of Conover; and his grandchildren, William R. Hinson, Jason Kaylor, Jonas Gilbert, Margaret Elliott, April Brittain, Nicky Kaylor, Jonita Cornwell and Alicia Lawrence Gilbert.
