He is survived by: his grandchildren, Vonte, Rebecca, Barry (Janae), Brandon, Kierra and Angel; his wife Viola Wright Hedgebeth; his children, Phyllis Hedgebeth of Elizabeth City, NC., Frieda Wills of Greensboro, NC., Glenda Hedgebeth of Thomasville, NC, Floretta H. Carter (Barry) of High Point, NC., Laurie H. Allen (Scottie) of High Point, NC., Angela Perry (late Robert Louis Perry) of Jamestown, NC, Larry Wills (Sandy) of Maryland and William Hedgebeth Jr. of Winston Salem, NC; his siblings, Clara Allen of The Bronx, NY and Dr. James E. Hedgebeth (late Annie Hedgebeth) of Durham, NC; and his siblings-in-law, Abraham Smalls (Wanda) of South Carolina, Mikell Smalls of South Carolina, Terry Smalls of Florida, Frances Anderson (Moses) of South Carolina, Mary Smalls (late Nathan Smalls) of South Carolina, Deloris Mitchell (Derryl) of South Carolina, Janie Miller (Adam) of South Carolina, Sheryl Rivers (Johnnie) of South Carolina, Sandra Smith (Michael) of South Carolina, Hazel Redden (George) of Texas and Leslie Peterson (Timp) of Georgia. He is also survived by grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
