With heavy hearts, we announce the death of Jo Ellen Brooks Godfrey of High Point, North Carolina, born in Lumberton, North Carolina, who passed away on January 31, 2024 at the age of 84. She was predeceased by: her parents, Rev. James Boyce Brooks and Ruth Snipes; her husband Richard Godfrey (Byron); and her brother James Boyce Brooks II. She is survived by: her brother William H. "Bill" Brooks (Sharon Ambrose); her nieces and nephews, Glenn (Ginger), Paula Fox (Brandon) and Brooks (Jonathan Portis); and her grandchildren, Jake Godfrey (Daphne), Kaylee Hilston (Henry), Alan Fox and Jane Phelps (Dryden).

In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to the music ministry of First Baptist Church, or to a cause important to the donor.
