He was predeceased by: his parents, William Atlas McDowell and Dovie Roxanna; and his half-brother Clyde. He is survived by: his brother Joseph Wesley McDowell; his granddaughter Susan Lynn McDowell; his wife Evangeline Hawks; his daughter Carolyn; and his sister Margie Jean McDowell. He is also survived by four grandchildren; three great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild.

No formal services will be held due to the pandemic.
