With heavy hearts, we announce the death of George Highsmith (High Point, North Carolina), born in Dunn, North Carolina, who passed away on August 7, 2020 at the age of 97. Family and friends are welcome to send flowers or leave their condolences on this memorial page and share them with the family.

He was predeceased by: his parents, Josephine Perry and Charles Highsmith, MD; and his siblings, Charles Perry and Elizabeth "Lib" Highsmith Dunbar. He is survived by: his wife Florence Ellis; and his children, Bill Highsmith (Antoinette), Tom Highsmith and Nancy Highsmith Zirkle (Andy). He is also survived by six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

“George is the reason I came to Thomasville NC in the Summer of 1970 to join Thomasville Medical Associates, Inc. Most of the next 29 years we had offices next door to each other. He taught me how to treat common illnesses and together we pioneered colonoscopy and ultrasound of both heart and abdomen. He was dedicated to finding each patient’s problem. We put temporary heart pacemakers in together, argued about many issues together. I will miss him for the rest of my years. A true friend!”
