He was predeceased by: his parents, Claude Heatherly and Stella Shelby Heatherly; his siblings, Carl Heatherly, Wayne Heatherly, Faye Arnold (Dana) and Marjorie Jennings (Henry); his son-in-law Frank Brown; and his grandson David Heatherly.
He is survived by: his wife Betty Payne Heatherly; his children, David Heatherly of Jacksonville and Kathryn Heatherly Crossen (Jack) of Vancouver, Washington; his stepchildren, Rebecca "Becky" Hutson Brown of Winston-Salem and Tony Hutson (Angela) of Powell, Tennessee; and his grandchildren, Amanda, Jessica (Ben), Jake (Madison), Blake, Melissa (Nick), Billy (Mary Anne) and Meghan (Jason). He is also survived by several great-grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to the Pennybyrn at Maryfield Employee Appreciation Fund, 109 Penny Road, High Point, NC 27260; or to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
