He was predeceased by: his parents, Austin Smith and Treva Smith; and his grandson Carlos Lopez IV. He is survived by: his wife Joyce Loftin Smith; his children, Billy Jr. (Barbara), Treva Osborne (Chuck), Julie Lopez (Carlos) and Suzie Weast (Paul); his grandchildren, Amy, Scott, Greg, Mark, Stephanie, Erin, Lindsay and Lauren; and his caregivers, YaShima Reyes and Nettie Garland.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be directed to support local Parkinson's patients through the Hamil-Kerr Foundation at PO Box 1963, Jamestown, NC 27282.
