He was predeceased by: his father Edward Coolidge; and his brothers, Reverend Eddie Shumate and Dennis Shumate. He is survived by: his mother Marie Sparks Shumate of North Wilkesboro; his children, Kimberly Shumate Livingston (Philip Robert Livingston III) of Chapel Hill and Eric Wesley Shumate (Melissa Shumate) of Moravian Falls; and his grandchildren, Ivan Livingston, Arthur Livingston, Daemon Butrick, Morgan Holliman and Ethan Shumate.
