He was predeceased by: his parents, B. Grier McClain and Doshia Parker McClain; and his siblings, Elmore, Willard, S. Walter, Albert of Esby, RV, Jacob, Hattie M. Griffin, Ollie C. McClain, Annie Catherine Linney and Mary Sue McClain.

He is survived by: his wife Mildred Juanita Mayfield McClain; his children, Shelton McClain, Richard McClain and Robin M. Cowan; his sister Shirley M. Byers; his grandchildren, Maurice Cowan, Andrew McClain, Ciara Cowan, Starr Cowan and Angelica Scott; his siblings-in-law, Lonnie Mayfield (Carolyn), Aleece Mayfield, Doris Morrison (Randy) and Wavie Wilder (Tony); his nephew Fitzgerald McClain; and his son-in-law Stanley Cowan. He is also survived by cousins, other relatives and friends.
