He is survived by: his wife Barbara McDaniel Carter; his sons, Richard Carter, Tom Carter (Melanie) and Doug Carter (Bianca); his grandchildren, Joshua (Jessica), Elizabeth, Cora, Sara, Will (Sarah), Ben, Kinsley, Julia and Jenna; and his great grandchildren, Liam, Mia, Thomas and Eli.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be to Community Baptist Church in Thomas' name.
