He was predeceased by: his parents, Arthur Eli and Ola Hildebran Whitener; and his siblings, Mary W. Starling, Maurice W. Herman, Charles Whitener and Luther Whitener.
He is survived by: his wife Alice Hefner Whitener; his daughter Cynthia Whitener Marlowe (Tim); his grandsons, Jeremy C. Marlowe and Dustin L. Marlowe (Angie); and his sister Jean Killian Kauffman. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Mountain View Baptist Church Building Fund, 4266 River Road, Hickory NC 28602.
