It is with great sadness that we announce the death of John Morris Powell of Hickory, North Carolina, who passed away on September 7, 2024, at the age of 74, leaving to mourn family and friends. Family and friends are welcome to leave their condolences on this memorial page and share them with the family.

He was predeceased by: his parents, George Morris Powell and Louis Faye Prestwood Powell; and his sisters, Billie Jean Williams, Gail Powell Blevins, Georgia Ann Powell and Donna Faye Rich.

He is survived by: his wife Brenda Lambertina DeHaas Powell; his children, Ronald George Powell (Elizabeth) of Hickory, Christopher John Powell (Lisa) of Hickory and Melanie Powell Shook (Luke) of Granite Falls; and his grandchildren, Taylor, Carter, Caden, Chloe, Bryson and Colton.

“I was privileged to serve in the U. S. Army Element, Allied Forces Central Europe, with John Powell in Brunssum, South Limburg Province, The Netherlands in 1968, 1969 and 1970. I was honored that he and Brenda maintained their friendship with me and my wife Nancy during all these years. He was a leader and an inspiration to serve with. His AFCENT Brothers will greatly miss his presence. God speed.”
