He was predeceased by: his parents, Robert Coy and Annie Schuffler Powell; his wife Ann Powell; and his siblings, Carol (Bug), Shirley, Jackie, Bob and Gailda.

He is survived by: his son Jerry Lee Powell Jr.; and his sister Audrey Perkins. He is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews and other family members.
