He was predeceased by: his parents, Herbert Hoover Townsend and Ruth Lail Townsend; and his siblings, Marty Lail, Bobby Townsend, Larry Townsend, Vickie Townsend and Patsy Townsend.
He is survived by: his sons, Scotty Townsend (Jeannie), Michael Townsend and Earl Townsend (Amanda Davidson); and his siblings, Jackie Townsend, Michael Townsend, Janice "Arlene" Spann, Anita Parker, Renee Helms, Susan Townsend and Lisa Townsend. He is also survived by nine grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
