He was predeceased by: his parents, Richard Eskeridge and Ida Harris Sawyer Matthews; and his siblings, Marjorie Holland and Donald Richard Matthews. He is survived by: his wife Julie Boyce Matthews; his children, Elaine Crawford (Tom) of Manassas, VA, Lisa Harrell (Paul) of Hertford, Willie Matthews (Tina) of Hertford and Bobby Matthews (Carola) of Jacksonville, FL; and his sisters, Ida Saunders of Hertford and Carolyn Meads of Hertford. He is also survived by 12 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; and a great-great-granddaughter.
