He was predeceased by: his parents, Ruth Ballard Smith and Shelby Lee Smith. He is survived by: his wife Gail Sheldrick Smith; his brother Doug Smith (Nancy) of Pinehurst, N. C; his children, Mary-Catherine Pisano (Josh) and Shelly Smith Cloninger (Jeremy); and his grandchildren, Juliana, Elijah, Frankie Pisano, Griffin and Ellis Cloninger.
