She was predeceased by: her parents, Jacob L. Hill and Maude Maxwell; and her husband Donald Edward "Ed" Patterson. She is survived by: her children, Donna Stover (Philip), Kerry Patterson (Candis), Pat Patterson (Helen), Alan Patterson and Mike Patterson (Mary Ann); and her sister-in-law Ruby Heatherly. She is also survived by her thirteen grandchildren; numerous great grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, Janie's family kindly asks that memorial donations be made to Four Seasons Hospice & Palliative Care.
