He was predeceased by: his parents, Ruby Stamey Mintz and William Otis Mintz; his brothers, Carl Mintz and Jerry Mintz; and his great grandchild Marques Austin.

He is survived by: his wife Deborah Banks Pierce; his daughter Shannon Pierce Parker; his stepchildren, Grace and Robert Austin; his brother Leroy Mintz; his grandchildren, Madeline, Abigail, Sawyer Parker, Michael, Ava and Eden Austin; and his great grandchildren, Adriana McGrew, Malasia Austin and Neva Ingla.

In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be made to the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson's Research.
