She was predeceased by: her parents, Oakley M. Carnes and G. Armstrong Carnes of Virginia. She is survived by: her siblings, Ronald J. Carnes and V. Lynnette Carnes Beman; her husband John Murray Scharett of Hendersonville, NC.; her children, Karen Lynne Scharett Secor (Michael Secor) and Michael John Scharett of Candler, NC.; and her granddaughter Kylie Sweigart of Charlotte, NC..

In lieu of flowers, Barbara had requested that donations be sent to the Wounded Warrior Project.
