He was predeceased by: his parents, Nina Swanson Hayes and Eddie Hayes, Jr.; his siblings, Robert Hayes, Josephine Naylor and Elder Hayes; his nephews, Tony Hayes, Chad Garrett and Steve Naylor; and his stepson Steve Dickerson.
He is survived by: his brother Winfred Hayes (Marie) of Norlina; his nieces, Connie H. Garrett, Stephanie Edwards and Myrtle H. Pernell; his nephew Adam Garrett; and his stepgranddaughter Heather Whaley.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to a charity of one's choice.
