She was predeceased by: her parents, Huston Nichols and Reba Nichols; her husband Thomas Penland; her son Kevin D. Welch; and her siblings, William "Bill" Nichols and Iris Dayton.
She is survived by: her children, Derek Welch (Maureen), Nick Welch (Azure) and Jennifer Penland Carter (Mark); her brothers, Clarence Nichols (Diane) and Gary Nichols (Deborah); her grandchildren, Davis Carter, James Dakota Lanning, Nate Welch, Jade Welch and Jared Welch; and her great grandchild Ivy Michelle Carter. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
Visitation was held on Thursday, April 10th 2025 from 1:00 PM to 2:45 PM at the Mount Pleasant Baptist Church (50 Marvin Cabe Ln, Hayesville, NC 28904). A funeral service was held on Thursday, April 10th 2025 at 3:00 PM at the same location.
