He was predeceased by: his parents, Bishop Robert Leon and Fernie Lewis; his wife Ella Mae Lewis; and his daughter Cynthis Lewis Schaal. He is survived by: his children, Sherida Lewis Stevens (Ernest Stevens), James U. Lewis, Jr. (Lori Lewis) and Anita Lewis. He is also survived by ten grandchildren; seventeen great-grandchildren; nine great-great-grandchildren; a host of friends and brothers and sisters.
