He was predeceased by: his parents, Dock Thomas Mitchell and Rose Ella Ivey Mitchell; his former wife Sandra Louise Mitchell; and his siblings, Katie Peyton, James Edward Mitchell and William Earl Mitchell.
He is survived by: his wife Frances Gurley Mitchell; his children, Angela Dyas (Steven) of Salem, Claude T. Mitchell (Kim) of Mt. Olive and Jeffery Mitchell (Charlotte) of Dunn; his grandchildren, Alan, Breanna, Leigh, John and Samuel; and his siblings, Durwood Lee Mitchell of Clinton, Frances Wells of Clinton, Rachel Shaw of Ivanhoe, Susan Godsey of Florida, Iris Riggs of St. Petersburg and Margaret Sealey of Little River, S. C..
