He was predeceased by: his parents, James Clarence and Florence Matthis Hudson; his son Thomas Ray Hudson; and his brother Robert Clarence Hudson. He is survived by: his wife Martha Blackburn Hudson of Harrells; his children, Linda H. Cole of Harrells, Twylar Harvell (Andy Burchfield) of Harrells and James Allen Hudson (Iris Costin) of Maple Hill; his grandchildren, Chuck Cole (Jennifer), Justin Ray Harvell, Allen Dwayne Hudson, Jennifer Hernandez, Collin "Trey" Hudson and Austin Ray Hudson; his siblings, Bobbie Anne Jenkins of New Bern and Betty Lou Sykes (LeRoy) of Ivanhoe; and his friend Thomas. He is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, extended family.
