She was predeceased by: her parents, Murdock Merritt and Rosie Mae Merritt; her husband Robert Velarde; her sons, Ricky Blackburn and Robert Blackburn; and her sisters, Daisy Jernigan and Doris Smith.
She is survived by: her son Ronald Velarde (Amber Gilsson) of Elizabethtown; her sister Zelly Byrd (Zack Byrd) of Elizabethtown; her close friend Bobby Simmons; and her grandchildren, Hyleigh Brackett and Raelynn. She is also survived by grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and other family members.
Visitation was held on Thursday, March 6th 2025 from 2:30 PM to 3:00 PM at the Colly Chapel Church (3857 Mote Rd, Harrells, NC 28444). A funeral service was held on Thursday, March 6th 2025 at 3:00 PM at the same location.
