He was predeceased by: his parents, Hilda Sandlin and Charlton Sandlin. He is survived by: his wife Millie Sandlin of Harkers Island; his sons, John Willard (Lori) of Smithsburg, MD and Nathan Sandlin of Charlotte; his grandchildren, Nora and James Willard; and his cousins, Julia Turner of Overland Park, KS and Tim Mallard of Raleigh.

In lieu of flowers, donations in his honor can be made to Straits United Methodist Church 311 Straits Road, Beaufort, NC 28516.

“I know it has been almost a month since you phoned and told of about Stick. Sam and I are ever so grateful that you did. Sam loved talking to Stick as they relived the days of "old"! Stick was always so patient with Sam...who has a tendency to be long and drawn out--especially when he is reminiscing. Stick was not only one of our first employees at Sam Wood Assoc., he was one of our friends. He will be greatly missed greatly by us both. Jaynee and Sam Wood”
