He was predeceased by: his father John Mertz; and his sister Sharon Callahan. He is survived by: his wife Sharon Brooks Mertz; his children, Tiffany Reed of Raleigh, NC, Kylie Davis of York, SC and Jacob Mertz of Grover, NC; his grandson Andrew Davis of York, SC; and his siblings, Johnny Mertz (Penny) of Kings Mountain, NC, Richard Mertz (Kay) of Kings Mountain, NC and Lisa Burnham of Grover, NC. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
