He was predeceased by: his parents, Jack Boardman and Connie Boardman (O'Connor); and his brother Phillip. He is survived by: his wife Jane Marie Hanley; his sons, Neil (Danielle) and Ryan (Jenna); his grandchildren, Hanley Anne, Harrison and Henry; and his siblings, John (Sheila), Dan (Glena), Tom, Ellie Swengston (Dean), Ken (Jeanne) and Gwen Beeley. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Pitt County Animal Shelter or the Humane Society of Eastern North Carolina.
