He was predeceased by: his parents, Thomas Hathaway and Helen Hathaway; and his wife Julia Leggett Hathaway. He is survived by: his children, Teresa Hathaway Tejada of Snow Hill and Joseph Edward Hathaway, Jr. (Nancy) of Greenville. He is also survived by 6 grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren; and 2 great great grandchildren.
